International Wine Report (Jan. 2020) Review of 2017 Prince of Hearts Rosé, Paradise Hills Vineyard

Prince of Hearts Red Wine New

Review by J. D’Angelo

Rating: (94)

The 2017 ‘Prince of Hearts’ is a gorgeous wine from Blankiet. In 2017 Claude Blankiet and his winemaking team decided to include six barrels fruit which is normally designated for the Estate Proprietary Red into the Prince of Hearts, and the result is wonderful. This instantly opens to striking aromatics of fresh ripe dark currants and dark cherries, which are woven together with spring florals, graphite, dusty loam, tobacco, spices and a touch a touch of licorice all developing beautifully in the glass. On the palate, this is just as impressive, as it possesses a gorgeous textured mouthfeel and a wonderful seamless quality. This goes on to show remarkable overall balance, precision and finesse, with a core of beautiful sweet ripe fruits that expand gracefully through the finish. This is a sensational wine from Blankiet which is already showing beautifully today, however that being said, it could also offer a drinking window that spans two decades.
